Copley Library: Library Learning Goals

Library Learning Goals

Library Learning Goals

MISSION:

The mission of the Copley Library is to provide the Eaglebrook community with an inviting and flexible space where access to a wide range of resources that support learning and teaching are made available; to provide support in the development of a culture that promotes wider reading, motivated readers and learners for life; and to provide a place for collaborative learning, creativity, and for developing independent research and information literacy skills to help prepare our students to become productive, informed citizens in today’s information driven society.

At the middle school level, the school library supports the integration of information literacy and technology skills across the curriculum by collaborating with educators in subject areas. Students do not have a regularly scheduled library class. Rather, in collaboration with all subject area educators, integrated units of study are developed and delivered that support and extend the subject area curriculum. The teaching of library information and technology skills is the joint responsibility of the librarian and the classroom teacher. Another key focus is the development of student literacy, connecting students to quality literature through a reading elective, various reading incentive programs, author visits, book talks, genre lessons and more.
